The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt with the heart.” These inspirational words come to us from the American educator, Helen Keller, who overcame the adversity of being blind and deaf to become one of the 20th century’s leading humanitarians. We can relate this thought to the field of design as well as “Design must first be felt to be expressed”. Creativity is an expression of our inner being and how we make sense of the world around us. Each of you who have chosen to embark on a career in the Creative Arts will understand what I mean. Every thought and idea begins in the mind and is translated through the fingertips onto paper. New technology now makes it possible for us to translate our ideas directly onto computers. Education seeks to empower us with the ability to open our minds to new ideas while, at the same time, discovering our own identity.
At International Institute of Design Studies we encourage you to give boundless expression to your taste, emotions and freedom of thought and produce creations that have a signature of your personal identity. There is one quality that any individual must possess to achieve success, and that is a definiteness of purpose – the knowledge of what one wants and the burning desire to possess it. To achieve this, one ought to have the passion, perseverance and patience and then one would surely emerge a winner. Remember, dear students, always think positive and visualize your strengths.
International Institute of Design Studies is not just an institution; it is a vision that has taken concrete shape over a period of time.
So, no matter which career stream you choose, be it Fashion Designing, Interior Designing, Jewellery Designing, International Institute of Design Studies promises to transform your potential into a positive, highly rewarding career. I’d like to close with the words of the legendary football coach, Vince Lombardi: “The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.”
